I'm an extract brewer who can certainly see myself getting into an all-grain gig in the near future. I'm going over the forums here and I'm wondering what all of these abbreviations like RIMS, HERMS, etc. mean. Can somebody give an explanation of the different types of brewing setups? Thanks.

( R ecirculating I nfusion M ash S ystem) (Heat Exchange Recirculating Mash System) . FYI wikipedia and/or google will tell you everything.

HERMS and RIMS, as far as you need to be concerned, both mean "Big fancy expensive brewing system that only the most advanced all-grain brewers use." Those systems are the high end of the complexity scale of all-grain brewing. On the less-complicated end of that scale, many of us use barely more than a cooler, a couple of pots, and a turkey fryer burner, and we still get the job done.
