is there a formula to figure out the OG from my preboil brix. My preboil brix is 15 and i have 7 gallons of wort which i will boil down to 5.5 gallons. Thanks

Search for brewing programs like promash or beersmith, these tools are very useful. 7 gallons at 15 brix, boiled down to 5.5 gallons, will yield about 19 brix

Should be 15 * 7 / 5.5 = ~19. Or something like 1.050 : 50 * 7 / 5.5 = ~63 , or 1.063.

You have some amount of dissolved solids. You're removing liquid but keeping the solids. Brix and gravity readings are measuring density. Pre-boil density * pre-boil volume = total solids = post-boil volume * post-boil density.
