I've got cacao nibs and vanilla beans in vodka, but it doesn't smell good

Last night I put nibs and scraped/choppped vanilla beans into vodka to soak for a few days. This morning I checked on it and it really doesn't smell that great. Is that normal? I thought it would smell pretty amazing. I'm getting scared to add it to my beer.
