I want to keep my fermenting bucket at least 70 degrees, but nowhere in my house is quite that high...so does the fermenting process give off any heat at all (so I could put a blanket on it)?

While the yeast is actively fermenting temperatures in the carboy can be 10F higher than ambient temperatures.

TYpically the temp inside the carboy is 6f higher than outside....plus or minus a degree or two...so if your yeast needs to ferment at 65f for example, you want the outside temp no higher than 60f....

fermenting in a closet might work for you. closets aren't drafty, especially an interior closet.
just be careful about blow off and getting it on any clothes in the closet.

I blew mead all over a ceiling once, before I knew about airlocks...cranberry mead...my mom was LIVID.
