Well...maybe not technically vintage or antique but I found a bag (1# I think, EDIT: it's a 1/2#) of Freshops Saaz in the back of my freezer...the bag was never opened and still has the vacuum. They have been frozen ever since I put them in there (aside from the occasional hurricane induced power outage).

I haven't bought bulk whole hops in about 9 or 10 years!

Believe it or not...they are still green. I still haven't opened the vac-pac yet but just looking through the clear plastic they don't look bad. My camera is a POS but I'll take a pic next to some fresh whole Cascade and post it later.

Any chance these are still useable? For like...vampire or werewolf repellant?:D

Maybe a 'Dirty Sock and Limburger Pils'?

I did my promash hop degradation calculation for you...

Saazer of 4.3% Alpha Acids Stored at 15F = 3.70 AAU's after 108Mo/9yrs

Saazer of 4.3% Alpha Acids Stored at 15F = 3.60 AAU's after 120Mo/10yrs

Saazer of 4.3% Alpha Acids Stored at 0F = 3.87 AAU's after 108Mo/9yrs

Saazer of 4.3% Alpha Acids Stored at 0F = 3.79 AAU's after 120Mo/10yrs

If they don't smell like cheese, then I'd use them. Bittering though. Use fresh stuff for late additions

Here's a couple of pics...vintage Saaz on left. Lambics huh?:mug:

WTF!? Is that an Oak leaf in my Cascade?

You may want to start cleaning out the freezer more often than once every 9 years.....what else did you find?:D
