I'm going to brew my yeast starter today.. I don't have a stir plate. I have a 1000ml beaker... w/ bung lock and all that stuff.. I hear I should do 2/3 cup of Dry Malt extract. Correct? How much water should I use to brew my starter w/? How long do I boil the wort? Do I need to Ice bath my kettle or just let it cool down a bit? Is there a certain temp I should be looking for?

use 500ml water. boil till the hot break subsides. cool to below 90F any way you want. double check with others about the amount of water.

I normally go with a 1/2 cup dme to 2 cups water, boil for about 15 minutes then cool in an ice bath. It has never failed me
