Determine potential alchohol without hydrometer?

hello, my hydrometer broke and i will not be able to replace it for a week or so, but i had 5 gallons of cider that was ready to go so i just pitched the yeast without being able to take a s.g. reading. the cider package reads 65 grams sugar per u.s. pint. how exactly do i use this to determine s.g. or potential alchohol?

If I were you, I'd start with the "Search" button. Or look below and see a list of "Similar Threads"

The only thing you can do at this point is make an educated guess. You could also buy a jug of the same apple juice once you get your new hydrometer, and test the SG then. (Don't forget to add for any extra dextrose you put in)

65g/pint is 520 g/gallon. Thats' about 18 oz/gallon, which is 1 lb 2 oz / gallon. According to this chart, that's an OG of 1.050, potential alcohol of 6.5% ABV.

You wait til it is all finished up and use the Alcohol By Glass (ABG) scale.

Count how many glasses it takes for you to get a buzz. and reference that as the ABG ex: 4.2 ABG.

One Brix is 1 g of sugar per 100 ml of water ~= 0.004 gravity points.
