Ok I read the info folks posted for me last night and this is what I came up with. I am taking a black lager kit and making a black ale out of it.

My goal is something super black and with a high alcohol content.

So:

Fermentables:
Unhopped ex lt malt ex 1 can
ELEMENTS 1 LB
LDME 1 LB
Dextrose 1 LB

steeping grains
Carafa II 1 LB
Crushed crystal 1lb

Dark patent 1lb steeped in cold water overnight and discarded

So good idea? Bad? Suggestions?

You have about 5 pounds of extract and 1 pound of sugar? Is that all, or am I missing something? If you want a high ABV, you have to have more extract.

A whole pound of black patent is a bad idea, as is a whole pound of carafa. You can get "black" without a whole pound of each.
