What is the optimal burner height for a Brutus system?

I put mine at 3". I haven't fired it up yet but I think I may have to drop it another inch or so.

Mine is 2.25" using Hurricane low-pressure burners. Prior to the Brutus stand I was using a Hurricane Burner with the factory included stand and that was spaced about 2.75" below the kettle. I never had scorching problems, in fact sometimes I wondered if it was a little too high so I made mine come down 1/2"

I'm using a high pressure propane burner around 2-3" from the bottom. Unfortunately, I getting a lot of black soot on the bottom of my keggles. Is all of the soot from my burner being too close, OR....is there another reason/problem that I haven't considered?
