Firstly, this forum is a WEALTH of information. I spent many hours reading
and educating myself, and becoming excited. I just finished up my first brew
and it's quietly sitting in the closet at 64 ambient.
Boiled in 20qt aluminum pot on electric range.
Recipe:
• 3 gallons distilled water
• 2 gallons spring water
• 3 lb sparkling amber DME
• 3 lb Briess pale LME
• 12 AAU Glacier Hops bittering
• 5 AAU Vanguard finishing
• 2 packets of dry Safale-US 05 (22g net)
My questions to anyone:
1 - The aluminum oxide layer on my 20qt pot disappeared during the boil entirely. What gives. Am I going to have oxide ale?
2 - The strainer in my funnel clogged so I removed it and poured all the
break and hops and everything into the carboy. There is now a large
deposit of junk on the bottom of my carboy.
Here is a pic:

Is all that junk going to give me any headaches?
Thanks!
