what is the best way to get water from a hose before all grain brewing? the water quality in my city has a poor reputation, is there any way to filter it from the hose before i do the mash?

First don't use a garden hose. Use an RV hose that is rated for drinking water.

Second you can use any number of filters. There are RV filters that are designed to go inline and with with standard hose fittings.

I got a 25' section of refrigerator water hose and hooked that up to a hose end. This is then attached to a activated charcoal filter sold for refrigerators before going into my HLT.
