dont know about the johonson but i have a Ronco and it is worth it if you care about temp control. but really you need other equipment with it. heater, fridge, thermowell.

You only need a temp controller if your using a freezer as a kegorator. If your using a refrigerator then the fridge temps will be fine for serving beer. If you have a freezer you need the controller to keep the kegs from freezing.

But you can also use a temp controller to make a fermentation fridge.

If you do decide to get a controller, I highly recommend the digital ones from ranco. I've had the analog models and it was not so great.

I use the analog Johnson Controls controller on my Keezer and love it, don't spend more than $60 on it tho!

a fridge should not need one.

I have an analog controller and it works perfectly fine. The temps are about 2 degrees off off but having a thermometer in the freezer solves that problem.
