Splitting the beer atom since 1996
Hi.
I am used to using miscellaneous american ale type Yeasts, about 25 batches so far. These are usually a fairly thin consistancy of bubbles/blowoff. I just brewed up a Red Hook ESB clone using the WLP041 Pacific Ale yeast (now in secondary), and it seems very sludgy in character. I have always used a standard 3/8" blowoff tube, and had a little more trouble than usual - never actually plugged, but close. I know, I know, I should use a 1" tube, but I haven't had to to date.
Is this difference in blowoff consistency normal? What yeasts seem to give more trouble than others?
Thanks,
David
