I wanted to brew the Best Bitter from Brewing Classic Styles recipe this weekend and while I have the recipe written down (mostly), I will be doing a three gallon boil. Now in the book, they talk about adjusting the amount of extract to add for a 3 gallon boil by estimating the points per gallon from the steeping grains an then working out how to hit the right SG from the rest.
I don't have a clue how to do this should I just go ahead and do a straight late extract addition or does anyone know the formula?
