no bids yet? mmmm

too bad I'm broke, besides I have two that need to be rebuild anyway. I really cant wait to use them. They are the perfect size for a overnight camping trip me thinks.

That seems really high to me (IMO) I am used to picking up the 5 gal kegs for 20 bucks each...
supply vs demand - there were way more 5gal then 3gal in the field so the supply is low and the demand is high as they are getting harder to find.

I understand that. but why not just buy the five gallon kegs and only put 3 gal in it. unless you are extreemly limited on space or require 3 gal kegs for a specific set-up, then I don't see a problem. IMO

Cheers

SOLD!!!! I grabbed 2! Thx jester!!!

Wop- Iwant them for gatherings. A three-galon keg fits perfectly in a 10-gallon round cooler or ice cube. Carb them up, attatch a little co2 cartridge, put a small tap on the front and you're set!!!

its a convenience thing. And like I suggested they would be perfect for an overnight camping trip or a day at the lake fishing without have to tote an entire five gallon can around.

You can sit in in the back seat or trunk of your car w/o having to lay it down.

I got the two I have from a guy FREE :rockin: who was trying to make room in his shop and had them sitting in a corner for who knows how many years ( they were pretty dusty when he handed them to me)

Plus they seem to be semi-rare finds so they are a conversation piece amongst fellow brewers :cross:

IMO, none of these points are valid...:drunk: ...and I'm trying to be kind.

I'll chime in with my recent purchase of a 3 gallon corny for just this sort of reason--portability. Some of us may have no qualms or concerns transporting a full 5 gallon corny and some of us may like the cool factor of having the smaller one. To each his own.

I'm noticing negative comments when someone posts what they consider a "good" find lately, I'm going to do my part to be positive and appreciative, even if I have no intention of purchasing what they've found.

Thanks for keeping us in mind Jester. :mug:

I'm with the Lion on this one. I'd rather hear about and then reject a tip than to not hear of it at all. Actually, I kind of like the idea of a small portable unit but I'm still trying to build up all the equipment I HAVE to have and can't really consider what I'd LIKE to have. That being said, now that I know of the rarity and convenience of these little ones, I know to snap them up if the opportunity arises.

Like I said, those smaller ones are great for outings (camping, tailgate parties, etc) because they fit nicely inside a ten-gallon cooler, thus making them nice and portable. I don't want to have to lug my entire kegerator with me on a camping trip, plus find a way to plug the damned thing in. These things are indeed rare, and $50 each is by far the cheapest price in well over a year, so I jumped on it. If had had more money available, I would have bought another set. I brew 10 gallon batches, I'll put five in one keg, three in a small one. and bottle the rest:mug:

I wasn't trying to post any negative coments, I just personaly like the 5 gallon kegs and to me it seems like a lot for a smaller keg. where as I would be willing to pay more for something that I wanted and someone else may call me crazy. I bought a $8 12oz beer at the liquer store and my friends called me nuts, but to me it was worth it.

Cheers, and happy Kegging:rockin:

HOW DARE YOU DISAGREE!

you must be a socialist!

Take this mans beer ration away and forbid him from posting drunk smilies for 10 weeks time. if he resists put a hole in his kettle, that will make him think twice about typing drunk!

j/k

:p

Its stainless, can be made shinny and it holds beer. Need I say more?

:mug:

3 gallon cornies are good for short guys so that they don't drag on the ground while carrying :p Hey if you or someone you know has a tig machine, you can cut down the bottoms of the very cheap 5g's to make any size you like. I think one gallon cornies would be killer for brewclub meetings and the like.

I stumble by my comments... would kick myself in the can if I ran out and could have brought along 2 more gallons...:D

My reply: I would rather have the extra 2 gals of brew with me.

You can sit in in the back seat or trunk of your car w/o having to lay it down.

My reply: Stand it up on the floor board in the back seat.

My reply: Can't argue with that.

My reply: For $50...I'd rather brag that I got 4 cornies for the price of his 1...

But, in the end to each his own...:D If he's happy, I'm happy for him...:D

FWIW I got my SEVEN 5-gallon jobs for less than I paid for one of those 3-gallon jobs. I don't care. They will fit a need for me.:p

I totally agree man. I have three 3 gallon kegs and I use them all the time--they fit perfect in my travel kegerator and they work great for many other uses too. If I ever do a small experimental batch--it gets kegged in that.

Makes me feel bad for not being quicker about picking some up I saw on craigslist, guy had 9, 5 gallons for $30 each and 4, 3 gallons for $25 each, I was just going to pick up the whole package and sell some off to cover costs....

I mentioned it to the guy at my LHBS, I think he may have trumped me on the deal...but he said that 3 gallons are great since you can fit them in a normal fridge, keg half your brew for immediate consumption and bottle the other half to age...

I e-mailed the guy who posted the ad, and he said it had all been sold.

I've been lucky in my searches. I've picked up 2 3-gallon cornys for $35 each and 2 3-gallon Firestones for $30 each. I use 2 on the compressor step in my kegerator, one for big beers and the other for BLC. Like Bernie said, they're great for outings and I don't like to carry a 5-gallon keg unless it's full. If its 2/3 full or less, I'll push it over to a 3 for convenience.

Almost 2 years ago I wanted to keg my beer, but with severe space limitations the only size I can fit in my beer fridge is the 3 gal size. I bought 4 of those 3 gal cornies and had them shipped here to Japan. Including shipping the cornies worked out to about $50 each. Ideally I'd like to have and use 5 gal cornies but they're too big fit in my closet or my fridge, and would take up too much space on my balcony (I live on the 4th floor in a 600 sq ft condo in central Tokyo; couldn't afford to buy a bigger place). I brew 5 gal batches and bottle whatever doesn't fit in the kegs.
