counterflow or plate chiller loss of wort?

using either of these, assuming you are pumping through, is there loss of wort in it? Is it significant enough to need calculating for?
 
You will lose some but I figured out that if you keep a gallon or so of sanitary water standing by, you can dump it into the kettle just as the last of the wort drains. That water will keep the pump primed and push the last of the wort out. Just stop the pump when water starts coming out of the chiller.
