My family and I raise barley for cattle feed most of the time. Every know and then we get a year whos weather conditions here in wyoming favor malt barley. We are on the wrong side of the big horn mountins, the west side raises a lot of malt barley. In the past we have sold to both bud and coors. Usually our protein will run to high to make. I was wondering if there was anyone who "custom malted", I guess. I just think it would be cool to brew with barley we raised.
Thanks

Craftbrewer Radio did several segments on malting your own grain, iirc they were pretty in depth.

Flooding in North Queensland does not stop this brewcaster putting out a show. In a two part series, the guys will cover all you need to know about home malting your grains; YES you can do it at home. A tasting of the Sour Cream Lambic was well overdue, with surprising results, as more sour beer reports from brewers. We are off to Africa in our International Craftbrewer Series, and we look at a beer review - does it stack up. Bad news on beer and malt prices, Weirde and Wacky World of Beer, - gee what more can we pack in!

Lack of internet access does NOT stop the Brewmaster and Cellarman from spreading their beer knowledge. In a full program they cover feedback, sample the mango sour cream lambic and compare a beer review with the real thing. Want more - well our beer super hero’s girlfriend is in danger, a new record for drink driving was set in North Queensland, and the second part of home malting your grain is finalised. No program is complete without a rant, so expect one or two, and country music and beer go together to finish off the show.

A new series starts with an indepth look at what goes on in malting, including all the chemical reactions that matter. We talked about drinking a virtual beer in the last show, so what about running a virtual micro-brewery, yes there is a game out there you can play. We review the sediment extractor as a device for yeast harvesting, of course The Weirde And Wacky World Of Beer is there, and the plate chillers have arrived from Denmark, so experiments are set to go.

The second part in our series on malting goes more indepth as the brewmaster explains the chemical reactions that go on. And the guys also talk about their latest go at smoking malt, how to do it, how to use it, and why you should do it at home. Dont miss the new sponsors add that they sent in as they didn’t trust the Brewmaster to do it right, and we give out links to the Beer Tycoon game so you can become a real microbrewery owner. As usual a little feedback, some whinging and ranting, and a song request fulls out the program.

The third part in our series on malting looks at the main enzymes involved, AND the one no-one tells you about that is very important. More information on how to get and install the beer game “Beer Tycoon”, and we taste the Australian Cluster Pilsner. The latest list is released of the top 10 beer drinking nations, crocodile attacks, and the latest in the beer intervention in Australia. Of course The Weirde And Wacky World Of Beer, and a song request should keep most entertained.

In our final series on malting, you’ll discover an enzyme no-one talks about, yet its the most important one you will use in mashing, and it starts with “L”. More information if your having difficulty in loading and playing the game “Beer Tycoon”, and we review an experiment on using plate chillers. An interesting judging esperiment was also conducted, the top ten weirdest beers in the world, and a couple of beer radio reports round out the program. And yes yet another song request.

Thanks Revvy and Lou. Thats the problem with this hobby, its endless what you can do. I guess thats why there are a lucky few who get to do it for a living.

Welcome fellow farmer. I have been meaning to try malting myself. Have the hops growing now. Someday I will have a true "home" brew. Keep us updated on any progress.
