I'm new to growing hops and Planted my first field in mid-March. I started big with 65 rhizomes covering over an acre. I planted chinook, cent, and Cascade. My growth has been amazing for the first year and when I left for Vacation on May 29th the plants had reached about 8-10ft tall. When I got back home(southern Indiana) June 3rd, 40% of my Hops were dead! They somehow split in half right at the base where they came out of the ground. I'm now noticing the rest are following and built the mounds up higher in hopes to support the base and prevent what has been happening. I have a drip system installed so I know they are getting the right amount of water but I cannot figure out the bases are splitting and killing the rest of the Vine. Does anyone out there have a clue to whats going on? Thanks so much,
-B
