Kettle strong enough for heating element?

So more beer has this kettle:

Any idea if this would be strong enough to support a heating element? I'd probably solder a fitting into the opposite side from the couplings to screw the element into. Also, assuming this will be for 5 gallon batch boils (6-7 gal pre boil volume) would a 5500 watt 240 volt element be enough? Too much?

I don't see why it wouldn't be. Blichmann's can support an element, and they're fairly thinwalled. As far as the element, I have a 4500W element in my kettle, and it's plenty fine for 7gallons boiling.

A welding spud would provide a large surface area for the soldered fitting.

A 5500w is more than enough for 5-6 gallon batches. A 4500 would be plenty, 3000w would be the minimum IMO for that pot.

I have that exact pot, it has 1mm stainless walls and supports heating elements just fine ( I have 2 1500 watters in mine) boils 5 gallons in 40 minutes

stainless is alot stronger than people give it credit. punching a hole in it is the tough part.
