Has anyone tried to cover their entire carboy with a rubber like adhesive such as butyl tape? I had a friend in college that repaired a broken glass container she used for something else and it worked great. It was water tight and everything. My thinking is that if it were to drop on the ground and shatter, it would make the thing a lot safer. And with the clear adhesive, you could still see through it to clean. Thoughts?

Safer, probably. Any covering would negate seeing through to clean. When I check for cleanliness, it's the tiny little spots that are still stuck and anything over the glass will obscure that.
