Thanks to all the help from the brewing community I have just enjoyed my first enjoyable pint of home brew. Yeah, it was a pre-hopped malt extract and, yeah, there was no fancy stuff, but what I'm drinking now tastes like angel's tears.
The final thing that swayed the sweet pint was cooling the keg with ice packs and bringing the temp down.
The beer did not clear as I hoped but the reduced temp seemed to make the beer taste a million times nicer.
So to the last question of my first batch...
Should reducing the temp make so much difference to the taste. Before, at room tempt, it was not really a nice drink.
Anyway, thanks everyone... what's next? A nice stout or porter I think.
Mark.
