Alcohol Sales dropping

FiveThirtyEight.com: Politics Done Right: BREAKING: Beer No Longer Recession-Proof

Any beer store owners or pro brewers on here noticing this trend? I guess it isn't far fetched to think during a recession people would drink more cheap beer and not splurge for the better stuff. Or in most of our cases it probably means brewing more of our own.

On a kind of realated note, Oregon wants to raise the beer tax by 1900%. That'll decrease beer sales quite a bit I imagine, but it might get more folks to start a homebrewing hobby.

The owner of the liqour store on my way home from work told me sometime around Christmas his sales were down about 100k last year, haven't asked yet about this year. He said many people are not really quitting, just buying the cheaper stuff.

I've talked to a couple local pros and they say sales are up over last year. One introduced a lite American hybrid and it's is running second to his IPA without impacting the sales of his other brews!
