I have a friend who is going to be doing his first ever brew and is quite interested in doing an extract version of my patented “Steam Pils”.

Since I have not brewed an extract beer in many, many years, I can use a hand with the conversion of my AG recipe.

18 Lbs German Pilsner Malt
1 lb Munich Malt
1 Lb Vienna Malt.
1 lb 2 Row Malt
Pinch Gypsum
Pinch Calcium Chloride
Irish Moss or other fining agent

2 ½ oz Saaz Hops (FW) 15 IBU
3 ½ oz Saaz Hops 60 Min 20 IBU
½ oz Saaz Hops 30 Min 1 IBU

Use a starter of WLP 810 San Francisco Yeast or WLP 830 German Lager.

Ferment at 60 degrees< transfer to secondary and lower temp to under 50 for 2 weeks before kegging.

You will swear it is St Pauli Girl.

Conversion to extract ideas anyone?

I am going to the LHBS in the AM to get my starter, any help would be appreciated.

I am very curious to see how this comes out. I have never done a side by side with AG and extract with the same recipe. There could be an article in this !

Cheers,

Is that what it is?

Man I am out of practice.

I wonder if that is enough speciality grain to really convert tho. Is it typical to up the grain bill since you are using less of it?

On the other hand, I could just up my grain bill and add some of the runnings from my mash tun.

Decisions decisions.
