I am trying to make 5 gallon all-grain IPA. I've got 11 lbs of grains.

Im wondering if I can simply heat up my water to 160, poor it over the grain in a grain bag inside of a cooler. Stir it up. Wait an hour and then bring the wort to a boil, add my hops for an hour, then cool it quickly, pitch my yeast and put it in primary?

Does it need to be more technical then that?

Thanks,
Newb

You will probably need to heat your strike water hotter than 160 to achieve a mash temp of between 150 and 160.

You will also want a second pot that you can use to rinse your grains after the hour mash.

Combine the two together, making sure you get all the wort out of the grains (they hold quite a bit), then boil.
