I hate PC's because of the attacks you have to constantly endure by potential viruses, pop ups, etc. Couldn't take it anymore. So I bought a Mac. Now that I have a Mac, itunes is not only free for me, but integrated. So obviously I am not turned off the to program, I have no reason to be.

Second:

I use the internet a lot, I'm on the computer all day for work, but by no means am I a "techie". Even if I stick with this Droid I'm getting, I'm not the guy who's going to be personalizing it and developing apps, etc. So I'm more concerned with my phone company limiting what I can do with the phone (Verizon's notorious for this), than with Apple limiting me.

If you think a Mac isn't a PC then you are wrong from the start. Open up a mac...same crap as in a PC.. just different OS.. that's the difference.. You buy the name "Apple" and they tell you it's different and better than a "PC" when they aren't much different in terms of what's actually in them.

I've owned my comp for 7 years now (getting pretty old but still fast as hell on the net) and I've downloaded boat-loads of porn, music, games, and movies with little to no problems. All that I have on my comp is the standard Sementec security. To say that PCs are constantly under attach is Apple propaganda, and maybe the Apple users should quit falling for the "You've just won a million dollars! Click here to claim your prize" banners.

My Droid allows me to download anything on it.. and I don't have the VZW subscription so I don't pay anything extra. In fact, I just got the free NFL Mobile app available to Droid and get to listen to the pathetic 49er games. I also have a full html browser so I can go anywhere on the net and see the same thing as any desktop comp.

I just don't like the iPhone and was pretty disappointed after hearing so much hype.

Give the droid a chance and take some time to explore it.. honestly if you aren't biased towards Droids to begin with I don't know how you could choose the iPhone over Droid when using them side-by-side.

But, but Apple "just works!!!"

If I was a hacker, I would love Apple fanboys. They never have any virus protection and I could steal anything from them and they would never know until the bills start flowing in.

The only "superior" security aspect to apple is that they hold a relatively low market share. It's more efficient to make malicious code for PCs because there are more. The more market share apple takes up, the more prone to attacks they will be. They do not have superior technology or anything of the sort.

I am a fanboy of no one, but I do know a lot of software I run doesn't work on Mac. I have had 3 trojans in 5 years and they were caught immediately by McAfee.

Wow... this went somewhere I didn't expect. I wasn't even intending to argue the merits of the iPhone (which I didn't). I only wanted to see if anyone knew any inside info about it coming to Verizon.

Now you are just exaggerating.

True, I was exaggerating. But the point has a basis in fact.

So where are all the Mac virus's? I already clearly acknowleged that most of the "protection" comes from the fact that Apple holds a low market share. I'll even add that major systems don't run Apple software, so hackers have no real interest in Mac. That is exactly why I am willing to spend the extra money: less attacks. A neighborhood isn't safe because the Army is there, it's safe because it is not the inner city. So you buy a house there. Same concept.

Exactly why you shouldn't buy a Mac, just like the gamers I spoke of earlier. But look at your second sentence. Going on 3 years now, and not even a single pop-up. I'll give you that I have 2 years before I catch up to the 5 you are claiming, but I'll take those odds while you hope not to get another Trojan.

True about the OS, but my Mac didn't come preloaded with a single outside, unwanted program. I have never bought a PC that wasn't loaded with tons of free offers, free trials, demos, etc. All crap and nonsense. The extent of Apple's "advertisement" on the Mac is having the Apple.com site preloaded on your bookmarks. Hardly an intrusion.

.. honestly if you aren't biased towards Droids to begin with I don't know how you could choose the iPhone over Droid when using them side-by-side.

There's no bias in any of my posts. As a matter of fact, my Droid is sitting right between my hands as I type this...

No junk came on my PC since I built it from scratch. And I haven't had a virus in recent memory. Mac's are nice, but overpriced and less versatile. I have an iPhone right now, but after using it for a year I will not buy another. My Apple days are over.

I don't begrudge Mac lovers, unless, of course, they think they are somehow better than PC's.

My home computer (PC) has not had any virus protection whatsoever for several years now and I leave it on almost all the time. I haven't suffered from hourly/daily/monthly/yearly attacks. Zero attacks actually.

I plug the USB charging cable into my computer (PC) and my Android phone (Samsung Fascinate) and it syncs perfectly. Did so from day one, just plug it in and click 'mount' and you're done.

Apple could have had the entire smartphone market cornered if they hadn't limited themselves to AT&T. But now it's too late, Android is overtaking iPhone. Apple seems to step on their own dick sometimes.

Android phones from Verizon do come with crapton of bloatware. That can be remedied by rooting but many folks don't want to do that (it voids the warranty but can be undone such that they won't know, but that's even more work). Rooting also allows you to tether without charges. I'm not rooted, I will decide whether to root after Android 2.2 is released to Verizon Galaxy S phones.

For the most part, people who have iPhones think they are great and people that have Androids think they are great. Everybody thinks their kids are the smartest, their dogs are the cutest, and their homebrew tastes great too. No surprise.

I've only owned one smartphone and only for a few months but don't have any beef with Apple or the iPhone, I just happened to be a Verizon customer and was going to stick with them (and I happened across a Verizon kiosk in a moment of weakness at a Las Vegas mall after a really good trip ;)).

Bingo. Different strokes for different folks.

I have an Apple MacBook Pro for home use and have had Apple machines for near 10 years with zero problems to speak of. They work great, are low maintenance, and very very stable. For my personal use, it's Apple all day, but that's based on nothing other than personal preference.

I work on a PC/Windows machine at work all day every day. It has a few glitches due to our IT staff cutting some corners - NOT any fault of the machine/Operating system. It generally works really well and gives me no problems.

I'd argue that they both OSX and XP do most everything REALLY well. It's just a case of knowing how to use them and what their "limitations" and caveats are.

To the original topic:

I've been watching the iPhone on VZW a bit. And the only thing I know to "add" to that fire is - Look at Apple's track record. When you look at their newer devices, the iPhone & iPad, they are really sell THREE things: a phone, a "netbook" and HYPE.

The releases of either device (iPhone or iPad), or even "gererations" thereof have always been preceded with a TON of hype. I don't believe this to be accidental in any way, shape or form. So, will a CDMA/VZW be coming in the very near future?? I think that's simply answered by asking another question: "Is there market hype for it?"

I have been running Cyanogen's firmware made by Koush for the Droid since way back when. no way I would run stock phone.

Tether, Over CLocking, and other apps. Rooting is the ONLY way to run Android IMHO

Every minute you spend on the internet is spent fending off viruses. You have to have cleanup software, spyware software, security software... forget it, I got tired of all that crap.
I think this entirely depends on the security program you're running, and how you have it configured. I hold the belief that companies like norton and Mccaffe like to tell you how much risk you would be in without them so when it comes time to renew, you gladly buy a new copy.

Using windows defender and or AVG along with a spyware utility my system silently and effectively protects my system and I only ever see if I downloaded an infected file (which has happened once in the last year since I'm no longer a pirate).

Like I said though, you know what you want, and there's plenty of people like you who will accept the inferior hardware for the user experience that they expect. Frankly I don't think that there's anything wrong with that, so long as the person is aware of the decision they're making.

Thanks for proving my point ;)

Once again, I'll try to make this more clear.... I KNOW THAT THERE ARE LESS VIRUSES WRITTEN FOR MAC AND THAT IS THE MAIN REASON MACS GET INFECTED LESS...

... and I am willing to pay extra for that peace of mind.

When the time comes that Macs are getting attacked as much as PC's (...and 30 year-long list contains more than 13 viruses), I'll probably reassess what I believe is better for me. Until then, its obvious.

I think our point is that you are WAY overstating a problem. To each their own, but you sound like someone booming the warning of hot side aeration or autolysis in less than a month.

Enjoy your Mac. BTW, not a gamer. Audio/video is great on a Mac, unfortunately (well, I don't really care) a lot of other professional software isn't available.

Plus Steve Jobs is a ****** bag. "It's your fault, YOU don't know how to hold a phone."

Read my OP. This whole discussion wasn't my intention at all. If I can say what I think, its that everyone posting here automatically hears "pretentious hippy" when someone says they like Apple products, and then this discussion develops.

I'm still open to hearing inside info on when the iPhone is coming to Verizon, the only point this thread ever had... (but I'll also defend myself from the accusations of Steve Jobs ball-sucking and being a pretentious hippy a-hole who buys Apple because it is sweet and shiny looking and smells nice.)

I check macrumors.com almost daily for any info on it. If any news breaks, even remotely hinting at new info, it'll posted there pretty quickly. AT&T makes me rage. My original iphone doesn't connect to the data network anymore and my cell phone coverage sucks and I am in the middle of the city.

Over the years I have installed hundreds if not thousands of PCs. But recently have converted my entire family to macs. We have 4 Mac books, as well a a huge iMac. We have 5 or 6 iPods, and 2 iPads. So you might call me a fan boy. However 2 of our 4 phones are verizon androids. Verizon for me is the best carrier, and the android phones are the better phones. Just my thoughts.

I'm going to start checking that site for sure. I hear all the same things from my friends about AT&T, which is why I never switched. I just never imagined it taking so long for Verizon to get it. Plus, AT&T doesn't offer unlimited data packages anymore, which makes my decision (in regards to a possible carrier switch) easy.

To the OP.

If your watching either NFL Playoff game today, your answer should be pretty obvious by now!

I'll keep my Droid X though.

I did see that commercial during the Packers game, but anyone who just found out about it today hasn't been paying attention to current events. ;)

I've grown to like my Droid also, and will probably keep it for at least another 6 months to see what happens with the iPhone. I still probably will get it eventually, but the Droid is so far doing everything I want it to do.

i'm sorry, but no way I will trade in my flawed Droid1 for a Verizon iPhone sorry not going to happen. and YES I am due for an upgrade via Verizon

not really excited. the only thing the iphone has going for it is a larger support base which = more apps, but I'm on a rooted overclocked Droid so I really couldnt care less.

Had an Iphone, Loved it, but hated AT&T service. Switched over to the Incredible. I also like very much, I just hope the network doesn't slow down.

FWIW Airborne. I'm a big fan of Apple Products. I currently have a macbook and macbook pro. I also have a netbook running linux (ps3 too.)

I am more of a Verizon fan. In another life, I worked in the city on 6th avenue. On 9/11 I was able to get a phone call to my girlfriend (now wife) while walking over the 59th street bridge...enough said.

Years ago, the Iphone was out of the question with Verizon. I still have my 1st generation moto droid. I LOVE IT. Great phone, easy to customize and the navigation is better than garmin, tomtom etc.

I will have a tough time switching to the iphone when and if the time comes.

my .02!

caution: strong language but super funny:

I don't have a smart phone but thought this was hilarious. Nothing against either apple or non-apple peps.
