I'm making a Wyeast liquid yeast start for my upcoming brews. I have a 32oz growler. Do I need a bigger one or will this work? Is there a good size for starters?

I'm just doing 5gal extract average gravity(1.060ish) for now.

If you're going strictly by the numbers, you would need a 1.5 liter starter to get what you need to ferment this wort. In my experience, though, a good fermentation can be had on a 1.060 wort by just pitching the smack pack. For the cleanest fermentation, though, you're going to want to pitch more than 100 billion cells, so the 1.5 liter, I think, is a good idea.

I've been using a half gallon (64 oz) mason jar for my starters that I fill to about 1.75L. This leaves some headspace for krausen, and it's about right for most 5 gallon batches. At least good enuf fer gub'mint work.:mug:
