I guess the majority of brewers need to cool fermenters but I for one need to warm them in winter.

How about this for a cheap solution.

  • 20 l Jerry-Can plastic container
  • 75W Glass heater to keep the mixture at a constant temperature
  • Airlock to allow the gas to escape and to prevent air (oxygen) from getting in
  • Extra Caps to close container after fermentation
  • Temperature strip to monitor the temperature
  • Laminated instructions leaflet (Brewing Guide)

Looks cool. Only thing I would question is the temperature strip. Plastic is a poor conductor of heat. Would it give a temperature that's within a few degrees? It very well may, but I don't know.

That's really great! Nice sturdy handle & takes up less room than a carboy or bucket. I tested the temperature differential for a bucket last year & it was under the limit of what I could measure (0.5F). If that's a standard aquarium heater, it would give you good temperature control, probably a degree C or less.
