Never really been a fan of anything rye, but the other day a local bar had Harpoon's rich and dan's rye ipa and was pleasantly surprised. As usual Harpoon lists some stats on the beer on their website

anybody have any insight as to how the recipe might actually look? I really want to know what it is that I like about this beer and not other rye's.

It depends what characteristic you like in the beer. I like the spice rye provides. It also may depend on what the proprietor strain of yeast is that they use. I like to use a Belgian wheat strand with rye. Kind of tastes like pumpkin pie.
