i should have learned ages ago, don't stuff five plus gallons of beer in a five gallon carboy and ferment.... ;)

there is condiserable build up just below the surface, i fear it is gonna get ugly soon!

8 lbs english pale
.5 lbs belgian special b
.4 lbs victory malt
a handfull of smoked malt

1 oz amarillo kettle hops
.5 oz amarillo 30minutes
.25 oz amarillo 15minutes
.25 oz amarillo flame out

california ale yeast by whitelabs.

prepares blow off!!!!

I hope that's not in the house! I'd be worried about the 3 piece clogging and the carboy grenading, though not as worried as I'd be about SWMBO finding out.

;tis in the bomb shelter, aka the basement... it will not explode. i can take the stopper out no problem... it will get rigged with a blow off when it starts getting nuts. but untill then, it's just sport..... ;)

I only caught my latest Hobgoblin yesterday after arriving from work. It had started to gunk up my 3 peice and shoot out pure co2 from the tiny holes in the cover. I had my wife grab a towel while I watched for it to blow.
Luckily I caught it in time. Removed the cover and it started to spew lava like
krausen. Got a sanatized bung in with a blowoff hose and brought it into my basement.
Looking good today. Disaster averted.
I know I should have known better with using S-04 yeast slurry, but I did have 6 inches of headspace in there.
It's all but finished primary today. I figure a day or two at best will finish it. I'll rack this weekend.
