I'm planning on finally getting a wort chiller. I was wondering if an 8" immersion chiller would be okay to use if I'm doing a 4 gallon boil in a 5 gallon kettle. I'm worried that when I put the immersion chiller in the kettle it will cause the wort to overflow. Thanks!

It should be fine. I mean, there's no way to know for sure without the exact measurements of the chiller and calculating the volume offset, but I used to do 4 gallon boils in a 5.5 gallon pot with a chiller that was about 8" in diameter and it wasn't even close to overflowing it. For one, if you do a 4 gallon boil you're probably going to lose at least a half gallon during the process so there's no way a chiller is going to take up 1.5 gallons of volume.
