I just did a heavily-hopped batch recently, with whole/leaf hops. I noticed they absorbed quite a bit of wort, something to the tune of about .5 gallons between ~5 ounces of hops.
So I'm wondering, did they absorb the wort in all its glory, or just water? In other words, is the wort that I'm left with in the same balance that I had intended, or are the sugars, etc, now concentrated due to the action of the hops? I'm debating whether or not to top off the primary before fermentation really kicks into high gear.
