Tasting Notes
Spicy Rye With American Hops
This has quickly become a house favorite since my first time brewing this beer. Its not as bitter as a typical IPA but has lots of good hop flavor, it's more of a middle ground between a Rye Pale Ale and a Rye IPA.

Grain Bill: Assuming 77% efficiency, adjust pale malt to match your systems efficiency

7 lbs 8.0 oz Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 66.7 %
2 lbs Rye Malt (Briess) (3.7 SRM) 17.8 %
1 lbs Munich 10L (Briess) (10.0 SRM) 8.9 %
8.0 oz Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) 4.4 %
4.0 oz Honey Malt (25.0 SRM) 2.2 %

I mash in with about 3.5 Gallons (1.2qts per lb of grain) at 169F for a target mash temp of 154

I sparge with enough 170F water to total 4.5 gallons (because my biggest pot is 5 gallons) and begin boil.

Boil Schedule:

1.00 oz Columbus [13.90 %] - Boil 60.0 min 37.8 IBUs
0.75 oz Fuggles [4.90 %] - Boil 30.0 min 7.7 IBUs
0.50 oz Fuggles [4.90 %] - Boil 20.0 min 4.0 IBUs
0.80 Items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 mins)
0.50 oz Centennial [8.30 %] - Boil 10.0 min 4.1 IBUs
1.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 0 min 0 IBUs

I allow it to ferment for 3 weeks and FG is stable I dry hop for 5 days with 2 ounces of Amarillo

The Centennial and Fuggles taste great with Rye, I love Cascade but the next time I brew I may do all Centennial and Fuggles with Amarillo Dry Hop. If anyone brews this let me know what you think and any notes.

Enjoy, cheers!
