I really have no interest in home malting, but I know some of you guys do. I was searching around the other day and came across pearled barley, aka Job's Tears, aka Hato Mugi.
These are used in soups and other foods as a direct replacement for Barley, but it is not part of the Barley family, and it is gluten free.
I saw some potential there, although I am not sure how to use it exactly...it seems pretty cheap as far as gluten free grains go.
