Quick question, I use 2 120v 2000w elements currenlty to do my brewing.
Both run on seperate 20amp circuts with seperate GFIs.
Last night I fired my system up to do a preclean and knock the dust off for this weekends brew session.
One of my elements was making a singing/ringing sound
They have never done this before. It did not trip the GFI's.
Water came up to temp in usual time etc, with no problems.
Anybody elese ever hear of this?
Is one of elements gettting ready to crap out?

Mine often do this. Not sure what it is but it seems to go away the longer they're on.

Well I just found out the answer to my question. Both elements just failed while I was heating my mash water!!! No brewing today...d@mm it.

Only in a bucket with a false bottom :cross:

Seriously, I did dissect the heatsticks and found that both elements had failed open. There was no sign of water intrusion. I never dry fired them so they must have just worn-out, or had a manufacturing defect that lead to their early demise.
I have since built 2 new ones this week, and smoke tested them yesterday. Both passed no smoke or harmonic noise, and I’m looking forward to getting back to brewing this weekend.
