I racked an ESB off its yeast cake tonight, and when I went to wash out the bucket, I noticed some black rings underneath the cake. The beer itself tastes fantastic (I think it might just be the cleanest, most balanced beer I've made to date), and it was under the cake, so I'm not terribly worried about infection. However, I'm wondering if it's time to retire this bucket. Behold the terrors that lurk beyond the cake, and give me your thoughts.
