My very first, all grain attempt after getting my Barley Crusher in the mail. That crank is harder than I thought it would be!! :D

Anyway, I used Promash for my recipe at first, but a few things were off. Mainly, I feel I used WAYY too thin a mash. I also panicked early on, as my pre-boil SG was 1.04 !! This made me have a minor heart attack, and I thought I screwed things up. So, I did my 60 minute boil, and at flame out I added some honey to boost my SG. Well, I ended up with a higher OG than I had planned in the first place.

What I learned: Pay attention to mash water amounts.

Anyway, long story short I extrapolated the results into beersmith and I think what you will see below is actually what I did. I am looking forward to this beer when it will be ready. The only yeast I had was Coopers Ale (better dry yeast on order now for next batch), but given my 157 F mash temp the body will be *quite* full... maybe too much so. Here she is, anyone make something similar?

Metric makes my head hurt!:drunk:

Hahaha! Yeah, I should have converted it before posting... I am sure I would have gotten more interest :) Plus its a wierd size batch...

Update though, Its clearing now after stirring it well the other day. Does not look like my repitch lowered my SG (was 1.020 2 days ago). Given my high temp mash though, Beersmith is estimating 1.020 FG! So, in the end, I am probably right where I need to be and wasted my repitch.

Oh well, I live and I learn. I will wait another week or more before bottling and carb for 2 weeks, then fridge condition for a few weeks a try one (if I can wait that long!). The hydrometer wort that I tried 2 days ago tasted VERRY green.

Ok, so in case anyone cares or would like a recipe for an IIPA that is pretty f'in good, see the above. I tried the first one last night and it was FAAANtastic. One would have to like full body (FG 1.020), but this is how the beer was intended given my mash temp.

I would like to try this one using US-05 (or even US-04 to maybe eek down that FG).

Its a shame I only made 2 gallons, but I will definitely be keeping this as a nice balanced IIPA as the hops are not completely overwhelming.

Its name is "Mistaken Identity IIPA".
