Quick question guys...this is the 3rd time I've added oak but the first time I've used toasted oak chips. I added them to my porter a week ago and today noticed some sort of oily film at the top. Not sure what it is...has anyone ever noticed anything like this from adding oak chips? It almost looks like the film of hop oils that gather at the top sometimes during a boil...

I don't think the beer is infected...I'll taste it tonight though for sure. Just thought it might be a common occurance from oak...maybe the oils within the oak coming out?

I am not really sure what the oily film was from. The beer is wonderous though, so it's not contaminated! The only thing I can figure is that some of the sap from the chips created it? Who knows.
