Is this a good buy?

I was wondering if anyone had ever used this or know someone that has. It seems like its cheap since the price is so low. Let me know what you think. Also the reviews say something about the timer shutting off every 15 minutes so you have to relight it. would this be a problem?

You can get a better price on a similar burner at Walmart, with a 15 or 20 minute timer that can easily be bypassed so that the burner stays lit as long as you want. I think I paid about $40 for each of mine, and they easily support my keggles with 14 gallons or water or wort in them.

This is a wimpy model. Only 32000 BTU. 60000 is the lowest you will want to go or you will be starring at your pot for an hour waiting for a boil.

I have essentially the same one.

The burner is very small, and takes a long time to boil. If you keep the red button depressed with tape or a rubber band it will not shut off. I haven't used the pot with it so I can't comment on that except that it is thin enough to be dented if you aren't careful with it. The base is also bolted together stamped steel not welded rod so it isn't sturdy enough for heavy use.

I paid $40 and don't think it is worth much more than that.

Most brewers on a budget start out with the SQ14 or SP10. They are both about $50.00 shipped if you search around for a deal. Here they are on Amazon. Same burner oriface, so it's just a matter of which housing you like best:

For about $70.00 shipped, you can get the KAB4 wiht the Banjo Burner oriface, the same oriface used in the Blichmann burner and other more expensive models. This burner is wayyyy more efficient (like 40% more efficient) than the SP10/SQ14, and will easily pay for itself in the saved propane in about 10-15 batches. If you plan on sticking with brewing, this is a much better long term option. The KAB6 is also the same thing with a bigger, more rugged housing that's more appropriate for 10+ gallon batches. Bayou Classic also makes tons of models with the same oriface and different housings, but the KAB4 is the cheapest. Here's the Amazon lisitng, but shop around and you'll find it cheaper.
