**Update** 8/18/2009- This beer just took first place out of 18 in the First Annual Bee Cave Brewery Big Brew Bash with a score of 43.3. Edwort was kind enough to host this friendly HBT competition.
**Update** 7/20/2009- Just got my NHC final round scores in the mail today. This beer got pushed to the mini best of show in Cat.14 with scores of 40 and 36. The final assigned score was 38. I won't note all of the comments from the two judges, but I will list the overall impressions they gave of this beer. I plan on tweaking this recipe slightly according to some of the comments that were given and will update this recipe further once I re-brew/sample it.
Final Round Overall Impressions:
Judge #1 (40): Drinkability-"Please send me the recipe". Comments- "A very nice brew!"
Judge #2 (36): Drinkability-"I would pay money for this beer." Comments- "Clean style expression and malt complexity."
This beer placed 2nd in the first round, Great Lakes Region of NHC 2009, Category 14 India Pale Ale (IPA)- 14B, with a score of 39. This recipe was inspired by one of my favorites in the HBT database “Dude’s LakeWalk APA”.
A strong citrus/floral aroma. Nice citrus punch with a balanced malt backbone. Hint of sweetness followed by a slight bitterness that disappears into a clean and crisp finish.
I have brewed this 5 times now trying to dial in a flavor profile that really appeals to my personal preferences.
