I've read somewhere that you're supposed to put vodka or sanitized solution in your airlock. I don't drink vodka, so I don't have any on hand. So I put a solution of starsan in my airlock. But then i was thinking: what if some of this solution gets into my wine? I quickly poured it out and just put in plain old water.

Am I being too careful here? What's the worst that could happen if I get 1 ounce of starsan in 5 gallons of water solution in my wine?

Don't put the undiluted starsan into the airlock. Rather, fill your airlock with the diluted solution that you use to sanitize your equipment. If any of that gets into your wine, it won't affect it in the least.
