Hi All,
My local shop is putting together a bulk grain buy. My question is how long can I expect to keep my uncrushed grains.

Do base grains lose their freshness quicker or slower than specialty grains?

What about wheat? I have 5# of white wheat that has been in my basement for about a year. Could I use this or would I be better off pitching it.

Thanks for your help.

Properly stored grain can last a long time. Certainly years. Keep it cold, and well sealed.
Personally I don't buy more than I can use in a few months however. Some of those bags of grain sit in warehouses for a long time undergoing wide temperature swings.

As for the wheat, crush some and taste/smell it. If it went bad you will know. Depends on how it was stored.

Thanks. Yeah, my basement stays pretty constant. Right around low to mid 60's throughout the year. I'll mill some up and taste it and see how it goes.
