Cloudy brown questions about dry hopping

It is just floating. I did not think to weight it. Next time I will weight the bag and probably use whole hops instead of pellets for dry hopping. "I am gonna wait it out" is my current plan as it is the path of least resistance and a zero investment proposition. I'm just hoping for a...

Hi all, I want to start out letting everyone how informative this site is and how I love it! First time caller long time listener. Today I've got a question about dry hopping. I brewed a beer it is a brown. The fermentation has stopped (~4 weeks) and I racked the beer into a keg. I...

    Red Ale Experiment

What are prevailing thoughts about 3-6 oz of black Carafa II in this beer? I recently had a good red that I halved the amount of roasted malt and subbed (about 1 to 2 ratio) Carafa II and dry hopped it with an ounce of citra and an ounce of Simcoe. Tasted real black at first out of keg but...

    Questions on buying gear

I am making a keggle soon. I am working on the same change, extract to all grain, you are. It's about 135$ for all the components to take a keg (+30$) to a keggle (weldless at bargainfittings.com includes brewmometer, sightglass, ball valve to cam-lock with all connectors and five feet of high...

    Beer stuck in keg!

I want to know that also. I just put an out on my CO2 line and blew the crap back into the keg. Beer flows fine but I am contemplating a transfer in-line to another keg (out to out). Quick fix worked for beer tonight but what is long term sol'n? Probably not dry hopping in the keg for two...

    Mixing beers

I was at AZ big beer fest on Sat. And Sierra Nevada was there with an excellent ale that was a mixture between their Pale Ale, Celebration Ale and Torpedo plus a hint of vanilla. It was excellent! I am gonna mix some in an empty keg (red and pale) using a pig tail system specified on this...

    Advantages of stir plate

Mr Malty is very cool. I bought the iPhone app. How do I determine what the growth factor is for a starter? Again, thanks for the information. This site is a wealth of knowledge.

    Advantages of stir plate

Thanks all. How much faster can you get a starter to a pitch size? Moderately noob-ish question here. I usually just make 2 cups water an 1/2 cup DME thn pitch a smack pack or dry pack of yeast in growler and wait 24 hours. Pitch entire cake onto wort. Not sure how to determine pitch rates...

Office water cooler as temp control?

yrewerb can you show or describe how you plumbed return lines? I would prefer to have a cold and hot sealed unit. without the need for copper tubing. Plus has anyone tried this method for three carboys? is there enough chilling/heating power to change the temp of more than 20 gallons of water?

    Mixing beers

What about an experiment that mixes beers though? I like your idea, but that is a lot more work as opposed to less work: just mixing them together into a keg...dry-hopping with an ounce each of Simcoe, Cascade and Amarillo? that sounds good right?:ban: McMennamins Brewery in Oregon makes a...
