    Grolsch bottles

Bought 2 cases of the old 16oz Grolsch bottles from a buddy recently. I was needing to get some more, and like you know, they switched to the newer 15.2oz bottles. I was wondering if they are both equally as strong as the other, any pro's/cons between the 16 and 15.2? Can one withstand more...

Why do people like better bottles so much?

I got a couple recently and am using one currently as a primary. I like how light it is and all that but whenever I touch the thing it sucks in all the star-san thats in the airlock. Not a big deal but what if it's been sitting awhile, the solution in the air-lock could get nasty, dirt, fruit...

    Boil temperature make a difference?

Hey I just upgraded my equipment to all grain brewing which means I'll be brewing with propane now. When I was brewing before on my electric stove it seemed like the hottest it could get was around 212-215. Now that I can really control my temps a lot easier with the tank, I was wondering if it...

attaching a garden hose to the "out" line of your wort chiller

Hey guys i just recently moved up to all grain brewing which means a brand new shiny 10 gallon stock pot and an outdoor burner. Set everything up today, burnt all the excess paint from the cooker and realized i need to find a way to dispose of my hot water which will be coming out of my wort...

What is your technique to transfer your cooled wort into your carboy?

Asking this because I brewed a Chocolate Porter tonight and had some troubles transferring it into a better bottle. The last beers I've brewed I was lucky enough to have some vacant fermenter buckets, so the act of transferring the wort wasn't a big deal. No spillage at all. Tonight I had a lot...

No fermentation, even after adding more yeast

Hey guys I have a blueberry mead thats been sitting in it's carboy for around 7 months now. Started with just 10 pounds of honey trying to make 5 gallons of the mead. Racked it once already and added 3 more pounds of honey, that was about 5.5 months ago. Since then it's just been sitting, I...

    noob kegging question

hey so I force carbed my beer about 5 days ago. I've been drinking out of it and its been giving A LOT of head (better than no head!). While I was drinking it last night I switched off the co2 line and I drank probably around 3 cups after. The later cups had the perfect about of head. So...

    Filled the carboy too much

This is my second time making mead, and for the occasion I decided to try making some blueberry mead. I used: 13lbs of honey, a little less that 7lbs of mashed blueberries, and 2 packets of D-47. I pitched the yeast about 11 hours ago and its fermenting nicely. The only problem is that I...

Anything wrong with shaking the homebrew/wine after it starts to ferment?

simple question. My reasoning is that its ok because by the time its fermenting all the oxygen has escaped through the airlock so there's no risk of oxidization. Would like to know what you guys have to say though.

    Did I force carbonate right?

Hey guys just got a keg and a kegerator the other day. I racked my Cherry Pale Ale into the keg around 25 hours ago and burped out all the excess oxygen hanging out in there. So I watched this video The Homebrew Project part 3 | Kegging and Force Carbonation - YouTube and it made force...

    Carboy overflowed

Hey guys just threw together a 5 gallon batch of Apfelwein. I had a little too much apple juice than I thought and the carboy overflowed a little at the end. My question is did I lose some yeast when that happened? Or does the yeast tend to sink right away? I did have my yeast in some...

    Brew Network Podcasts

Hey I'm new to brewing and I've heard how informative these podcasts are. Only problem is I don't know how to download them all. Can anyone help me out with a link or what not? Also I do not have iTunes. Is it something I need to get these?

    Stupid siphoning question

Does the bucket with the beer HAVE to be higher than the carboy I'm siphoning into? I have about 6gallons of beer in my glass carboy sitting on a floor. I'm afraid that if I lift it to bring it to an elevated position I'll activate the yeast and mix alot of the gunk that I'm trying to get rid...

When to tell when to put in secondary fermentor and when to take out?

Hey guys went to a different LHBS in my area today before work to buy some caps, and came out with a lot of great information from the owner. I've decided to put my beer in a secondary. My only question is, how do I know when I should do that? Also once I put it in secondary, when will I know...

Didn't use camden tablets or boil

Hey guys made my 2nd batch of mead last night. First batch was 5 gallons and I followed the instructions exactly as the recipe called for that I got at my LHBS. This time I did it a little differently. Well I threw the water, honey, and grapefruit in the carboy, put the yeast in it's seperate...

Will it affect the test regardless? Thanks!!

    New to the Brew

Hey guys I'm 23 and looking to start brewing my own beer ASAP. Just started fermenting my own mead last week, and I think this is just a natural step for my to make. I love me some beer, especially the dark stuff, and the first batch I plan on brewing will most definitely be a porter. Pleased...
