    Blowoff tube help

Long soak in blazing hot water did nothing. Follow up long soak in oxy-water solution got it to finally break free. Still had to tug like hell, but it's free.

    Blowoff tube help

I recently had a batch that was overflowing my 3 piece airlock. I caught it in time and threw a blowoff tube right onto the inner part of the 3 piece. Today I bottled (barleywine gonna age for 12 months) but I can't for the life of me get this blowoff tube off of the 3 piece. Anyone ever have...

    The Green Perle

Clearly i am cursed. My chinook was growing like a steriod rage filled hop monster until a storm broke my line. That was about 6 weeks ago. At least i still have my underperforming Perle. Until now that is. Yesterday i noticed the line was snapped and the whole thing was laying in a heap on the...

It may also help that the driver of the car as we cross the border is a cop and he hands over his badge along with his license when we get to the check point. ;)

    Vacation brewing

Flars, I will take that bet. In 12 years of coming back into the US from Canada not only have we never been searched. I don't think we have ever been stopped at the check point for more than about 60 seconds. But if I am wrong you will be the first to know.

    Vacation brewing

In terms of border crossing I don't see any problem. Going into Canada we always declare everything, but in this case we would just have ingredients. No problems there, and nothing to declare really. Coming home we would have 5 gallons of something you could technically call beer if you wanted...

    Vacation brewing

Thanks GilSwillBasementBrews. That's exactly the direction we started going, and for the same reasons. Good to have confirmation with someone else thinking the same way.

    Vacation brewing

Help me out Friends. Every two years I go fishing in northern Ontario. Yesterday I was discussing our upcoming trip with one of my fishing buddies. He suggested that we should bre a beer while we are in Canada. He has brewed with me a couple of times so he kinda knows what's involved. It...

Ward Labs Water Report for Montgomery, IL

Hey there local brewers. Another Montgomery, IL brewer here. I wish I was smart enough to understand the whole water chemistry stuff. But alas, I must live in blissful ignorance. Good luck mastering this though. Maybe someday I will get there.

    Tripping GFCI outlets

All the silicone is finally cured and all 4 elements are working. Unfortunately I am out of town for the next few days so I can't even give it a test run.

    Tripping GFCI outlets

Thanks Bobby_M, now you tell me. :-) Haven't had time to brew anyways so the waiting isn't the end of the world. But if I could go back and do it again I would definitely had done it differently.

    Tripping GFCI outlets

The silicone is finally drying. 3 out of 4 have fully dried and are working. One left still a little damp and it immediately trips. This stuff is very slow to cure.

    Tripping GFCI outlets

Plugged in a lamp, no problem. I had the silicone on the connections all closed up in a rubber hose. Just pulled it off and found very wet, uncured silicone. Gonna leave it that way for a few days to a week then try again.

    Tripping GFCI outlets

Forgot to mention that wires are encased in high temp silicone. One thought I have is that the "inside" of the silicone may not be fully cured.

    Tripping GFCI outlets

Help me with some troubleshooting. Any ideas are appreciated. I will make it known when we have a winner. I am trying to get my new e-keggles working. They are leak tested, and good to go on that front. I have 2 2000w elements wired (12/3) to two separate 20A GFCI outlets. Each outlet has...

    2013 hops harvest

Just vacuum sealed 12.2 ounces of dried hops from my second year plants. 10.7 ounces of Chinook and a very sad 1.5 ounces of Perle. At least that is 1.5 ounces more than I got out of the Perle year 1. I'm happy with the overall haul.
