I just use a spray bottle with water to mist it as it boils up and it controls it well. It knocks the bubbles right down.

I do the same. I do use sanitized paint strainer bags over the pickup end of the siphon. I haven't ever had a clog. The big paint strainer bags have plenty of surface area.

Here they charge you basically for sewer on every gallon of water you draw (sewer costs 3x water). They also have a form that you can fill out that allows you fill your pool once a year and pay no sewer. You should see if they have something like that in your area. Even if you don't have a pool...
