My schwarz is more of a brun

Guy at the lhbs seemed to think 1/2 lb of chocolate for a 5 gal batch would darken the beer enough for a schwarz. Anyways it's more of a brown. Tastes awesome based on the sample. Is there a brown lager style?

    Atlanta / buckhead GA breweries

Two true breweries close to Midtown and Buckhead -> Sweetwater and Red Brick Brewery. Both do afternoon brew Sweetwater usually has a bigger selection, and recently expanded. For brew pubs, 5 seasons on Marietta St is great. Food is incredible. Their nut brown ale is amazing. They also offer...

When you're drinking your cheap beer, such as PBR or the like...

Yeungling out of bottle beats out of a can, and if I'm too lazy to pick something better, probably too lazy to pull out a glass.

I am officially going to Germany !! Beer Suggestions please!

If in Köln, Fruh am Dom is right across from the gigantic ass church, and a very palatable Kölsch. I really love sitting down drinking 0,3L glasses of beer. Very refreshing, but Kölsch is a very light and clean ale, closer to the lager/pils style. Altbier can be found next door in Düsseldorf...

    Boil-overs

Thanks, that is exactly the type of explanation I was looking for. I appreciate all of your input, and happy beering to you all.

    Boil-overs

Agreed, DME seemed to do the same for me. A bigger brew kettle would solve my problem. Hard to brew outside living in an apt.

    Boil-overs

Yeah, I didn't think so. I don't usually put much credence in data collected over three trials, but I thought I would seek some tribal knowledge on the subject anyways. I'll stick to the remove from heat method when necessary. Thanks for the input.

    Boil-overs

I've done three extract brews to this point on the stove, so I'm still fairly new. I do partial boils for space reasons, but I've noticed that the only time I get close to boiling over is heating the wort to a boil after steeping the specialty grains and adding the malt extract. As soon as I...

    Back in Black, Black IPA

Anyone else had 21st amendment's Back in Black, black IPA and found it lacking? It seems more like a porter to me. No strong hop character on the nose, and relatively light bitterness? Maybe I don't understand the Black IPA style. Can anyone explain it?

Thanks for all the info guys. I appreciate the tip on the swamp cooler, Ty. That should help out. @ Pickled - I'd be glad to trade a few brews if they turn out ok. I'm over on collier at Howell mill, so I'm not too far down the road. The friend I brew with lives on briarcliff right behind the...

No joke man, those set ups look too familiar! How long have you been brewing, and what brews have you made so far? Who do you use for supplies. I'm in midtown so I've been doing my shopping at hop city.

Making beer is awesome! I can't wait to crack one of these open, and hopefully get the next batch started a little earlier. Been sitting without home brew for about 2 weeks and gotta wait another month. I got room now though to start another batch. Invested in a big 6.5 g carboy. Stuck with...

I've got a 2bed/2bath apt, nobody using the 2nd bath, which has a walk in shower. Room stays dark. Using a damp towel to keep it cool, although the first night forgot to do that, and the temp strip said 74 degrees which is a little warm for wyeast american ale 1, according to their website...

Hey all, This is Kevin from Atlanta. I'm a new home brewer working on my second batch. I've got an IPA in dry hop secondary right now after a 14 day primary. Doing a specialty grain steep and mainly extract brew. Used some carapils for dextrin. Can't do all grain due to space constraints in...
