    Harsh american bittering hop

Hey all. I have an inclub clone comp of a local beer and this beer has a harsh but not unpleasant bitterness. Wondering if anyone one knows what American hop would have a harsh bitterness. The clone is of a very toasty red and thought it was from roasted barley but one clue was 1 dark malt and I...

    Sour mix 1 starter?

Going to make my first sour and I have 1 vial of white labs sour mix 1. The batch will be a 9gal lambic. White labs says you don't need a starter (for 5gal I assume) but thinking I probably should. Your thoughs?

    Denny's Favorite vs 1056 Experiment

Sorry I never did give the final results. Beers finish the same colour. The 1056 was extremely clean and the Denny's had a slight "pineapple" flavour to it but a creamier mouthfeel. My preference would be Denny's for anything besides a super light flavoured beer with this experiments results...

    Club Competition Ideas

That is a cool idea, I've heard of it done with odd ingredients, ie. Lucky Charms or or other odd ingredients but I like the way your club just uses random regular ingredients. Helps brewers get off the "staying to style" wagon.

    Club Competition Ideas

Hey guys, I recently took over as Club Competition Director of my home brew club and I am looking for ideas for inhouse competitions. Is there any comps your clubs are doing that you enjoy participating in. Could be brewing, tasting, or forum related or anything else you think might be a good...

    Who ships to Canada?

If you contact Ty at craftbrewing.com I believe he still builds keggles and will install threaded fittings on them if you want. $125 last I heard I think but that was a year or 2 ago. Craftbrewing.com is based out of Calgary and have really good prices. If you just want an aluminum pot, bass pro...

    Bottle/Keg washing service?

I wouldn't pay to wash my keg but, to wash my beer or wine bottles. Woooo. Oh I would pay. I keg my beer now but still bottled wine. If you are including delabeling, premium price. $0.25 a bottle would be fair but I would probably pay $20 for 30.

    Best Brew Shop Ever

And a good website. My hbs updates their yeast stock everyday. Really helps when you are building a recipe for your brew day if you know what your options are.

    Best Brew Shop Ever

Bring random gadgets in once in a while. Lots of us get a halfshaft over stuff like that. Also, put the brands on your malts so we know what we are getting.

Rack it to the secondary or leave in the primary?

Secondary isn't really necessary. I would just dry hop in the primary when you get back. Unless you keg. I started dry hopping in the keg and it is great. Just put the hops in a hop sack and tie it to some dental floss (non flavoured). The keg seal will seal around the floss (double check...

    Wort Not Cooled below 80

If the wort is to hot (+120F) you can injure or kill the yeast. It is always a good idea to pitch the yeast at or below the fermentation temp. If you start hot it can cause hot alcohol flavours. I wouldn't worry about it to much this time. As long as your sanitation is good it should be good...

    Who ships to Canada?

Hey all. Recently tried to buy from williamsbrewing.com and found out they don't ship to Canada. Heard on "Brew Strong" podcast that Northernbrewer.com doesn't ship to Canada. I would like to compile a list of companies that are canadian or american ones that ship to Canada to avoid further...

Just starting - looking for lots of help

James Spencer uses the Mr. Beer Unit quite a few times in his podcasts, basic brewing radio and basic brewing video. I recommend watching and listening to them for some great info, especially the earlier episodes. I learned a lot from him when I first started out.
