Which end of the wort chiller is " cold water-in"?

This is from John Palmer's Book, "How To Brew", p. 284: The cold water “in” fitting should connect to the top coil, and the hot water “out” should be coming from the bottom coil for best chilling performance.

    Storing Dry Yeast

How long can I store an opened package of dry yeast before I have to use it. I'm planning on brewing 2.5 gallon batches and using Safale Yeast. Mr. Malty gives the pitch rate as about 5 grams for under 1.050 gravity. The packs are 11.5 grams, and I store them in the refrigerator...

    AHS vs MWS vs NB

I've used NB mainly, but did order from AHS once and have been satisfied with both companies. One advantage that AHS has is that it allows you to order grains in smaller quantities. Great for steeping grains that call for less that a pound of grain, which is the minimum order for grains at...

    How much propane?

I weigh my propane tank before and after brewing to determine exactly how much propane I am using. My last four batches used 1.4 lbs, 1.5 lbs, 1.6 lbs and 1.9 lbs. All brews were 60 minute boils with time added for steeping grains (I'm an extract brewer).

    Stupid siphoning question

You mentioned that your fermenter was a glass carboy. Buy a carboy cap and racking cane, then when you need to siphon insert the cane in the large hole of the cap, put the other end in the container you're racking to, and blow through the small hole to start the siphon. I've been doing it...

    Small Batches, Liquid Hopped Extract

Recently purchased a Muntons Gold Docklands Porter kit. The kit comes with two cans of hopped extract, no boil needed, dry yeast packet, and makes six gallons. No additional sugar or dry malt extract is needed. I am thinking of making 3 gallon batches at a time, one using the yeast supplied...
