You mention you didn’t stir in the grains when mashing in.... possibly a high amount of grain clumps/ balls?? If so, you can recirculate but if the water doesn’t contact the grains, it won’t extract sugar. I would brew it again, and mix the grains well to a thin “oatmeal”, then recirculate.

Kegged the Amarillo SMaSH IPA today. Final Gravity was 1.013 for a 79% attenuation (1 packet). Very pleased with the outcome. Initial taste was very good. Will let it sit on gas for about a week and pour my first pint afterwards. So far I'd definitely use this yeast again. [emoji106]🏻

I agree with IslandLizard and it personally happened to me a few years back. Just double check on what the metal "pellets" are, but more than likely its non poisonous. Just filter, and continue on!

I have a couple of 15 gallon pots: one aluminum with drilled holes to install electric element & drain; the other is stainless with level sight glass, electric, drain/ pick up tube.

To lawrenjl: What mesh is the bottom of your solid sided basket? What do you post mash? do you just drain, press to extract more wort, add spare water? What's the "biggest beer" you've mashed in your solid sided basket? Any issues that make you decide to use open mesh sided basket next time...
