    No carbonation?

Usually I keg,but all of my kegs are in use so I had to bottle without force carbing. I used gelatin in my secondary for 1week then cold crashed 3 days. It's been a long time since I bottled with a primer but I used 3/4cup sugar for 5gal,and as I used to I filled 1 plastic bottle to check...

    Thoughts on HLT DIY idea.

Walmart has a sale on 32qt aluminum stock pots. My idea was to punch 2holes in one of these. One for a ball valve and one for an electric hot water heater element. This whole little project would run about 45$usd. I just wanted to get a few thoughts on this project before I tried it. I priced...

    HERMS, necessary or not?

M in the middle of upgrading my system. Money not being an issue I've been looking at the HERMS system, but I'm not entirely sure it's necessary. The one problem I haven't really had was keeping my mash temp in my cooler. If I make the switch to uninsulated stainless I can see the issue but...

    Does anyone else use Koppakleer?

I was looking to see if there was anything about this on here and could not find it. I've been using these tablets in place of whirlfloc and see very little if any difference(except in size and dosage). Dose any one else use this product? It dose seem to work well.

Love it or hate it? #1 secondary fermentation.

Being a regular on this site I thought I'd start a weekly post (love it or hate it?) dealing with controversial subjects in the home brewing world. For starters this week is an old argument, secondary or longer primary? As for me I only use a two stage fermentation when I'm doing a...

    I love beer!

Aside from my own and my friends home brew I'd have to say my favorite beer would be Murphy's stout. They only import it here in Colorado around St.. Patty's day at true Irish pubs like Mc Cabes. But all year round I look forward to a pint o Murphy's stout and as soon as I know it's there I'm...

    New SN

Heard there is a new Sierra Nevada stout or porter out there? Does anyone know the name or if it's reached Denver yet? I like to at least try the new especially the craft brewers.

    Additives and additions

Since I started brewing I've looked for things to make my beer good and also different. When in the supermarket I'm always looking for new things to add for taste mainly like spices or sugars that have a distinct flavor. The most recent thing was bottling a cream ale with Irish cream flavored...

    Wanted,good irish ale.

I've really been on the look out for a good, late hopped Irish ale. Something rich, smooth, and not very bitter. I've been on the look out for something in this category for a while now,and can't seem to pin point it. Almost a Killian's Irish red but a little smoother up front. And more of a...

    PDB experiment

In a post the other day the potato dextrose broth was brought up by a wiki link. Me being intrigued by the growth of yeast I had to try it and did a small experiment. Of which I will share the outcome for those interested. To make the broth you slice un peeled potatoes in to thin chips...

    Friday=Brewday

Big brew day tomorrow. While my APA is mashing I'll be boiling an extract mystery, but the fun doesn't stop there I've got to bottle my cream ale. I did a little experiment with a PDB starter which seems to have faired very well. I'll get to put it to work for real tomorrow. Any other brew plans...

    Brewing thank yous

Beer can be traced back almost as far as man, and was discovered completely by accident. Oh what a great accident it was. Not only is home brewing an awesome hobby and a great American pass time, but it is a tribute to our ancestors. A time when if you wanted beer you had to brew it yourself...

    The mystery brew!

Bout once every two months or so my LHBS empty out there LME containers into bags and set them on there "clearance" shelf I was looking around the other day and noticed all of these bags. IC,CFC or PC?

So its time to upgrade my system again. I've been using my own semi creative wort chilling method that works very well actually but I feel like trying something new. Before I go out and make a purchase I thought it wise to ask my good friends here on HBT some opinions. So far the advice I've...

    Thick sediment on top?

I recently brewed a 3 gallon batch of barley wine. When I opened my primary today for a gravity reading there was about an inch thick sediment on the top. I've never seen this before. Can anyone help me out with this.

    Raising the bar(ABV)

I've been brewing for quite some time now,and recently I've decided to start raising the alcohol levels in my beer. Being one of the lucky ones I have about 4 brew days a week. Since I started this kick my O.G. Readings have been between 1.150 - 1.110. I'm still using my same ale recipes just...
